Interview: Forever and a Day by Ann Gimpel

Forever and a Day (The Company Store #2)
by Ann Gimpel

Publisher: Taliesin
Genre: Paranormal Romantic Suspense

Espionage operations and runaway love travel halfway around the globe as Tamara and Lars stay one step ahead of death. Tension heats to boiling, but it’s not half as hot as the attraction licking at their heels.

Tamara MacBride has a much bigger problem than hiding her shifter side from the world. By the skin of her teeth, and with a smattering of Irish luck, she manages to kill her sister’s murderer. Escaping from the scene of the crime is proving much harder than she anticipated. Just when she thinks she might be safe, her cab driver shrieks and slumps over the wheel. She cowers in the back seat, too scared to run, expecting the next bullet will be for her.

An unknown assailant terminates Lars Kinsvogel’s target. Pleased by the outcome, after all dead is dead, Lars exchanges the glitz of Monto Carlo for a nearby airport intent on collecting the private plane he left there. He’s no sooner arrived when a cab jumps the curb. His instincts blare a warning, but Lars ignores them and trots over to investigate. There’s not much he can do for the cabbie, but his passenger is still very much alive—and absolutely stunning. It takes some tall talking, but she agrees to come with him.

Espionage operations and runaway love travel halfway around the globe as Tamara learns to accept her shifter side, and Lars embraces what’s been missing from his long life. Initially reticent to trust one another, it takes a series of crises and a near-fatal accident for them to take a chance on love—and each other.

Q & A with Ann Gimpel
Thanks so much for hosting me. It’s a pleasure to be here.

Tell us a little bit about your main characters.
Tamara MacBride has a much bigger problem than hiding her shifter side from the world. By the skin of her teeth, and with a smattering of Irish luck, she manages to kill her sister’s murderer. She’s a journalist, not an assassin, and escaping from the scene of the crime is proving much harder than she anticipated.

Lars Kinsvogel is an espionage agent working for The Company, a firm that only employs shifters. He’s shocked when someone eliminates his target, but not one to kick a gift horse in the mouth, he heads for his private jet at the Nice airport. A cab jumps the cub in front of him and he discovers Tamara cowering in the back seat. The cabbie is dead and it’s not easy, he finally convinces Tamara to come with him.

What was your favorite scene to write?

When Lars discloses he’s a shifter. Both of them have been dancing around an intense attraction, knowing it can’t go anywhere because human-shifter matings never work out.

What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
It varies tremendously. I try to write a chapter a day, but that can happen at six in the morning or ten at night depending on what else is going on.

How has your environment/upbringing colored your writing?

Now there’s a question I haven’t seen before. Thank you! I suppose we’re all better at writing what we know. I grew up in the fifties and sixties, so during a period of great upheaval and change. It made me believe in possibilities and taught me to fight for what I believe in. My psychology background gave me excellent insight into people, and I believe my characters have benefited from that. When I first started writing, the characters were always the easy part. I had to teach myself plotting, pacing, and tension.

If you could be any character from your book, who would you be and why?
From this book, I’d want to be Miranda, the Green Beret from Miranda’s Mate, first book in this series. She’s strong and capable and goes balls out to get what she wants. I admire her tenacity and her courage.

What do you do to unwind and relax?
Exercise, bake, backpack, ski, play with my wolf hybrids, visit with my husband and best buddy.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Antarctica and South Georgia Island. I went last March, and I’m going back this coming November. I’ve traveled the world climbing mountains and I love places that are wild and remote. It doesn’t get wilder or more remote than Antarctica. I fell in love with the southern ocean, the seabirds that followed our ship, the penguin colonies, and the dolphins that swam next to the boat.

What book are you reading now?
I just finished Written in Red by Anne Bishop. It was great. Before that, I read all six of Illona Andrews’ Kate Daniels’ books and am looking forward to book seven.
